Hardcoat or Hard Anodizing provides a surface that is harder, smoother and more wear and corrosion resistant than standard anodizing.

Hard anodizing is usually not sealed.  When the main function of the application is to obtain maximum wear abrasion resistance.

Hard coating

Sealing will improve corrosion resistance.

Note:  Hard Coat finishes are typically darker in appearance than standard anodizing.
